Here are a few things we will do during a Postnatal Consult:

  • Review the health history of the breastfeeding or chest feeding parent and baby.

  • Examine the anatomy of the lactating parent.

  • Conduct an oral assessment of the baby.

  • Conduct a weighed feed: Weigh the baby, feed the baby and then weigh the baby again to determine what the baby was able to transfer from the breast or chest.

  • Offer guidance on maintaining a proper milk supply.

  • Discuss your feeding goals.

  • Examine your pump and set-up a pump schedule if necessary.

  • Based on the assessment, I will provide you with a personalized care plan. At the end of your initial lactation consult, you'll have a clear understanding of how to achieve your feeding goals.
