Here are a few things we will do during a Postnatal Consult:
-
Review the health history of the breastfeeding or chest feeding parent and baby.
-
Examine the anatomy of the lactating parent.
-
Conduct an oral assessment of the baby.
-
Conduct a weighed feed: Weigh the baby, feed the baby and then weigh the baby again to determine what the baby was able to transfer from the breast or chest.
-
Offer guidance on maintaining a proper milk supply.
-
Discuss your feeding goals.
-
Examine your pump and set-up a pump schedule if necessary.
-
Based on the assessment, I will provide you with a personalized care plan. At the end of your initial lactation consult, you'll have a clear understanding of how to achieve your feeding goals.
