Here are a few things we will do during a Prenatal Consult:

  • Assess the parent's anatomy and any potential challenges they may face with breastfeeding or chest feeding.

  • Discuss the benefits of human milk for both the lactating parent and baby.

  • Explain the basics of breastfeeding or chest feeding, including proper latch and positioning techniques

  • Provide information on milk production, including how to establish and maintain a good milk supply.

  • Address any concerns you may have about feeding, such as pain, soreness, or milk supply issues.

  • Discuss strategies for overcoming breastfeeding or chest feeding challenges such as engorgement, blocked ducts or low supply.

  • Provide guidance in choosing the best pump for you as well as measuring your nipples to ensure a proper flange fit which will make pumping comfortable and effective.

  • Advise you on choosing bottles and paced bottle feeding to protect breastfeeding and chest feeding.

  • Offer guidance and support for partners and other family members.
